I asked the man at the farm stand where I was spending all my not so disposable income and he said the same thing. He said he and his wife store theirs in a box under the bed! So I put mine in these little colorful dishpans under the bench for our kitchen table. It stays cooler and dark there, our basement is a little too damp. Plus you know squash in the kitchen sounds normal, squash under your bed and people look at you funny, plus that's where my high heels that I rarely wear live.
Spaghetti squash + spaghetti sauce + a slow cooker for 4 hours = clean plates and full bellies!!
- 1 really large or 2 smaller spaghetti squash
- 1 jar of spaghetti sauce (25 oz.) or about 3 1/2 cups of homemade spaghetti sauce
- 2 pkgs. smoked sausage sliced into rounds
- 1 sweet red pepper diced
- 1 small onion diced
- about 3 oz. grated cheese any flavor you like
If however you are planning to bring this to your pregnant wife, mother-in-law, or Italian husband just present it as a new dish. I think that in some places faux spaghetti is grounds for divorce or worse. Plus it's sort of a disservice to the noble squash to be used only as an impostor.
